少年聽雨歌樓上，紅燭昏羅帳；
壯年聽雨客舟中，江闊雲低，斷雁叫西風；
而今聽雨僧廬下，鬢已星星也。悲歡離合總無情，一任階前點滴到天明。

In my young age, I listened rain pattering from the balcony, facing red burning candles and the dark curtain of thin silk.
In my middle age,I listened rain pattering on the ship, facing the wide river, low clouds and wild gooses honking in the west wind.
In my old age,I listened rain pattering under the eaves of the temple while greying at the temples.
The sorrows of parting and the joys of unions in life is callous, we have no way out but letting raindrops beating the stairways all through the night.

少年的時候聽雨聲是在高樓上，面對的是紅色的蠟燭和昏暗不明的帷帳。壯年的時候聽雨聲是在作客的船上，面對的是廣闊的江面和低垂的雲，在西風中又傳來失群的雁叫聲。如今聽雨聲是在和尚的廬舍中，這時雙鬢已斑白了；才感到人世的悲歡離合都是殘忍無情的，誰也無可奈何，只能完全聽任著階前的雨點滴到天明吧！



【賞析】
少年時代，風華正茂而涉世未深，樂觀自負但想法單純。積極熱情，躍躍欲試，易於縱情聲色玩樂，不知珍惜年少時光。中年時代，為名利而追逐，在人海中奔波飄泊。努力達成理想，卻發現夢仍在遠方，於是落寞空虛之感盈胸。老年時代，隨著年歲的增長，處世閱歷漸深，真切體驗人生的愁悶，而潛升悲涼。面對世事的無常，興起無奈之感，進而豁達以對，力求平靜。
