He was doing quite well from 40-44, I'm not sure about 5-14.. I believe the family was quite poor at the time, but from what my dad told me seems like his childhood was hard (he had to do all the housework and took care of all the brothers and sisters) but he still took time to play a lot. My dad works very hard and he always take care of everybody else first, so he doesn't always get all the benefits from his own work. There are often a lot of problems from his work and business, but whenever he comes home he just smiles and plays with us and never talks about that.

My grandfather was doing quite well back in China before he came to Hong Kong. He had a small bit of fame, and got the respect (and sometimes maybe even fear) from the local people. I'm not sure about the ancestors before that.
