現代對幸福的定義有兩種，第一種，幸福是一種感覺（感覺到快樂）。另一種更廣泛的意義是某人處於一種好或者壞的境地（比如她很樂意成為一名律師）。
古代強調的是後一種意思。古代人認為幸福是客觀的表現，它來源於個體不同的需要，比如實現某種願望，獲得某些成就，我們的思想得到正確的表達。
