I think life is a life-long research project just like when one is at school. It's a process of searching for something more suitable for us or something that we enjoy doing or something that brings us happiness. Within this "what we enjoy", society, culture and our parents are the limiting factors or guidance to the direction we take. It's not that there is a fake self, but it's a self that we didn't used to understand until something proves it wrong.
But what bothers me the most is that after doing all that we do in life, it all returns to earth....and after one has built a family and then retires, it's also time for one to see things go away. How do you deal with this "temporal" quality of life? Going through all the so called "progress", in the end we arrive at the same spot where we originally started. Perhaps our task is merely to keep the human species alive.
What is your meaning of life?
