明治元年(1868),東久世中將、鍋島肥前守充先鋒,將收橫濱,余時在肥前守營中,兼管各種事務。藩士下村某,率兵士百人,奉命先收浦賀,以向導囑余,為筮一卦。筮得大過之夬。

凡占軍事,內卦為我,外卦為敵。初爻在內卦之下,以陰居陽,陰屬柔,顯見我宜用柔。兌為澤,所攻取者,必是水澤之地。白茅柔軟之物,用以藉地,履之而安,無失足之虞,是教我啣尾潛進也。

今聞浦賀港上,有開陽、回天以下六艦碇泊,募兵脫走者數千人,搭載之;浦賀兵士又與之同心聯絡,敵勢過盛,未便用強攻擊。爻辭曰「藉用白茅」,《象》曰「柔在下也」,是明示以用柔之道,以柔克剛,收取海門咽喉為上策也。

下村某,率領十數人前進,不戰而平。
