Preponderance of the Small Expression Hsiâo Kwo indicates that (in the circumstances which it implies) there will be progress and attainment. But it will be advantageous to be firm and correct. (What the name denotes) may be done in small affairs, but not in great affairs. (It is like) the notes that come down from a bird on the wing;--to descend is better than to ascend. There will (in this way) be great good fortune.

《高島斷易》6201-小過 卦辭

[小過卦]二陽在內,四陰在外,「陰」為「小」,謂之小,陰過於陽,謂之「過」。

卦體[震]上[艮]下,[震],動也,[艮],止也,

動止宜得其中,若過動過止,皆謂之「過」。

[震]為雷,[艮]為山,若雷過猛,山過險,亦謂之「過」。

以其所過,皆在小事,此卦所以名[小過]也。

小過,亨,利貞。可小事,不可大事。飛鳥遺之音,不宜上,宜下,大吉。

[小過]者,陰過乎陽,即「習過乎恭,用過手儉,喪過乎哀」之謂也,

過在細故,道乃可通,故曰「小過亨」。

「利貞」者,矯世勵俗,利在歸正,故曰「利貞」。

四陰擅權在外,二陽逼處於中,柔弱無力,不足以當大任,只可小受而已,

故曰;「可小事,不可大事。」

[震]為鵠,又為音,故曰「飛鳥遺之音。」遺其音者,哀鳴之聲也。

飛鳥過高,欲下不得,哀鳴求救,上則愈危,下則猶得安,

故曰「不宜上,宜下,大吉。」吉在下也。
